Blu-ray, or BD (short for Blu-ray Disc), is a new optical disc format capable of playing high-definition (HD) video and storing large amounts of data (up to 50 gigabytes on a dual-layer disc). The name Blu-ray is derived from the blue laser which is used to read and write to Blu-ray discs. This technology allows you to record 5x the amount of data on your blu-ray disc versus a normal DVD.
