Panasonic's many years of experience in research and development has given them the knowledge and expertise needed when creating their new PQUS series of Mini DV tapes. With AME (Advanced Metal Evaporation) technology, the PQ Professional Quality Mini DV offers high signal output, durability, and reliability you can count on.
New DVM-33PQ US tapes offer an ABS resin shell and anti-static lid. A cassette shell molded out of ABS resin prevents warping and provides a tough exterior to protect the tape inside. Anti-static lid repels dust and other possible contaminates to protect the tape and reduce dropouts. Use the sliding lock mechanism to prevent accidental erasure.
The new DVM33PQUS comes with an enhanced 2-way soft case. New lid construction makes it easy to remove the tape with one hand while shooting and the soft case material keeps the case from breaking if dropped.

Learning More About Mini DV Tapes
Mini DV is a type of camcorder very popular among student filmmakers and emerging news journalists because of its professional quality and cost-efficiency. One great advantage of Mini DV tapes is its High Definition Format ability. However, this is not the same HD ability as one would see on any type of Digital Video recording system. The Mini DV system uses MPEG-2 compression, which is far more efficient than other technologies because of inter-frame/temporal compression. This ability gives MiniDV cameras higher resolution but with bit-rates comparable to that of regular DV. This explains why Mini DV in HD is becoming increasingly popular for semi-professionals and even home users who want a better quality of home movies.
The Mini DV system is much smaller than the VHS or even VHS-C tapes that you remember. This compact nature allows it to use small "L" cassettes, which measure 120 x 90 x 12 mm. These cassettes vary in speed but some can record up to 6.9 hours of video. The most popular type of cassette however, is the "S" cassette, which measures 65 x 48 x 12 mm and can hold 60-90 minutes of video depending on whether the user selects SP or EP. (SP means Standard Play and EP means Extended Play) The total number of minutes for footage would correspond to gigabyte capacity; for instance, 90 minutes would fit in 19.5 gigabytes. There are also less expensive tapes that use a thinner type of tape for the saving operation and thus can record anywhere from 60-120 minutes while often selling for less than $3.
