Description

Sony 85 Minute HD Mini DV Tape: DVM85HDR

Offers 75% fewer errors and 50% fewer dropouts for improved reliability and audio/stability when compared to the Standard Mini DV tape. The DVM85 DVC has a new lubricant for improved tape stability while running under a wide range of operating conditions. This DVM85 HD tape provides a higher carrier-to-noise ratio for greater output and less noise during playback. It is designed for 1080i or 720p HDV recording and playback. The DVM85HDR is the Sony product number for what used to be DVM85HD.

Advantages of Mini DV Camcorders and Tapes

Mini DV video recorders are a type of camcorder used for recording video on Mini DV cassettes. Users who buy Mini DV camcorders are looking to record their own footage, store it on tape, DVD or PC, and frequently playback the images digitally. Digital playback is obviously the most convenient method of playback and does not require any mechanical action. However, recording digital footage does require some mechanism, such as one provided by the MiniDV camcorder. Like other Digital Video recorders, Mini DV is a camcorder that operates by way of recording digital content on tape. However, unlike the tape recorders, Mini DV can digitally record up to 530 horizontal lines of video resolution.

Mini DV is a smaller form of DV tape technology and is used in many handheld camcorders. This makes it ideal for semi-professional video production. In fact, many video journalists have started their careers by preparing news stories with only their small camera. You wouldn't necessarily know that footage shot in Mini DV was anything different than what you ordinarily see on television. After all, DV tape recording offers superior quality video and audio, with reduced technical flaws associated with old VHS technology, and even some new recording technology, such as DVD or flash memory-based recorders.

The "L" cassette was the first type of tape made available for DV systems. The L cassette measured 120 x 90 x 12 mm. It was originally intended as a high-quality replacement for VHS cassettes. However, in recent times L cassettes have disappeared from the market and are now mainly used in professional settings. Now that most of the market uses Mini DV tapes, they are also switching to Mini DV "S" cassettes, which measure 65 x 48 x 12 mm. These can record 60 minutes of video footage (usually about 13-19 gigabytes) in Standard Play or 90 minutes in Extended or Long Play. There are also DV VTRs, which are systems that support both tape sizes. There are also special 80-minute tapes that use thinner tape and so can record 120 minutes in EP or LP mode.
