SxS (pronounced "S by S"), is based on the newer ExpressCard standard which is about 1/2 the size the the normal PC card. SxS cards are a solid state recording media which offer extremely high speed data transfer rates, up to 800 Mbps. Given its smaller size, compatibility with older computers is sometimes a problem for SxS, but most new PCs and Macs are equipped with ExpressCard slots. Regardless, external card readers are available for the SxS format.
