SxS (pronounced "S by S"), is based on the newer ExpressCard standard which is about 1/2 the size the the normal PC card. SxS cards are a solid state recording media which offer extremely high speed data transfer rates, up to 800 Mbps. Given its smaller size, compatibility with older computers is sometimes a problem for SxS, but most new PCs and Macs are equipped with ExpressCard slots. Regardless, external card readers are available for the SxS format. Sony SxS PRO Memory card was developed to increase workflow efficiency, fulfilling the demand for professional camcorders or non-linear editing systems with higher performance and reliability.
